These best practices build a tree’s natural strength and help it naturally resist insects and disease. Tree Pruning in Austin and Central Texas

Pruning Young Trees

For young trees, we prune live branches to improve the tree’s branch structure and enhance its overall beauty. When pruning young trees, small flowering trees, and fruit trees, we will also correct poorly attached branches, twin trunks, and other structural problems.

Pruning Mature Trees

For most mature trees, we trim and prune to remove dead, dying or diseased branches. This improves the tree’s health and appearance. This type of pruning also reduces the risk of damage. Large dead or weak branches can fall and cause personal injury or property damage.

For some mature trees, Good Morning Tree Service will thin live branches to improve the appearance of the tree or to allow more light through to the yard below. Mature trees also sometimes need to be pruned to raise their canopy – increase the clearance of a tree over a walkway, street, or building.

Proper Mulching

Trees are not supposed to look like telephone poles. You should always see a distinct flare at the base of a tree’s trunk. Do not cover this flare with mulch. Start well away from the flare, and apply 2″ – 4″ of high quality biodegradable mulch to 3 feet away from the trunk, or all the way to the tree’s drip line. This will help protect your tree from lawn equipment, and also help keep moisture in the soil.

Trees and Construction

Watch where you dig. A mature tree’s roots are much larger and wider than its visible branches. Heavy equipment – even if it seems like it’s far away from your tree – can compact soil and damage the tree’s root system. Contact us during your construction planning phase.
