Good Morning Tree Service transforms wood chip waste into a vital resource for community-based soil projects. This local loop initiative demonstrates how trees can feed the soil, which in turn grows the next generation of plants.
Project Partners
The project relies on a collaborative network of local partners to create living soil:
- BE Wild – Project Leadership: An indigenous woman-led group provides the design, vision, and organization required to get the plants into the ground.
- A Good Morning Tree Service: Provides the initial base layer of wood chips.
- Oddroots Coffee: Contributes used coffee grounds, which add necessary nitrogen back into the earth.
- Cap City Shrooms: Supplies mycelium, a living network that helps the soil thrive.
- Heart Stone Ranch and Equine Therapy Program: Provides compost to enrich the soil mixture.
- Wildflower Unitarian Church: Offers the garden space where the community gathers to build the project together.
Community Impact and Education
Beyond the physical creation of soil, the project focuses on fostering community connections and environmental education:
- Pollination Education: The group works to spread awareness about pollination throughout the community.
- STEM Engagement: Collaborations with preschools and elementary schools aim to spark curiosity about STEM and the natural world.
- Elder Inclusion: The project involves nursing homes, inviting elders to participate and share in the experience.
- Shared Goal: The initiative seeks to provide an opportunity for people of all ages to get involved, get their hands dirty, and take an active role in caring for the environment.
